The fourth annual Doctor K Cup will take place on October 17th.How to join in
Firstly, add the 2020 Doctor K Cup to your Fetch portfolio. All you need is a GPS watch or app. On the day, RUN AT LEAST 5K WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH. The Fetch Benchmark system will pull out your fastest 5k from your run (so you can include it as part of your long run if you like). The person who gets closest to their prediction will be declared the winner (though the judges decision is final!).
It would be lovely if you could upload your 'K' pics to the gallery (make a K shape with your fingers) to help us remember Doctor K and all the Fetchies we have lost.
15 Oct 797 posts | I like the idea of doing a freedom parkrun |
16 Oct 21030 posts | I'll be freedoming my home parkrun, in particular memory of spikeyboy, and Tigerlily, as well as Doctor K. Going have a good go at a time, i hope, rather than a jog round. (Mind you it might look like a jog to the casual observer.) |
16 Oct 3214 posts | A freedom run sounds appealing, I may well do the same. I'll get nowhere near my prediction if I do as that was going to be a push on flat tarmac, currently impossible on undulating parkland I would have thought! |
16 Oct 24859 posts | Don't forget to get your predictions in folks |
16 Oct 10766 posts | Fabbio! I am not changing my prediction, despite rather promising conditions, as I will just run this as part of my longer run, with a modicum of extra effort for half an hour rather than a full-pelt 5k. I promise to keep my watch up my sleeve for the relevant bit! (All the other bits will surely be slower). I presume that if we stop our watches, the clock keeps ticking for the purposes of the Dr K cup? This is because I quite often stop to faff about, take pics for the treasure hunt, look at WSW map, fix my pants, etc. But I'll try not to stop, except for necessary road crossings, for my relevant bit. |
16 Oct 14291 posts | My prediction is in, though it's going to be plucked out of a 10 mile invisible race that I'm doing at the same time. |
16 Oct 7610 posts | I'll be cheering from the isolation sidelines this year *pompoms* |
16 Oct 2715 posts | My prediction is in and will be part of my 10 mile training run. There's not a particular time we have to start is there? |
16 Oct 4815 posts | Wild guesstimate (prediction) in and looking forward to my first outdoor run for well over a year. |
16 Oct 53917 posts | I have revised my prediction again: I’m going to try and go sub-30 (29:59) |

On the 17th October, run at least 5k WITHOUT LOOKING AT YOUR WATCH OR GETTING ANY PACING HELP!!!
RESULTS
fetcheveryone.com/doctorkcup.php
Fetch will extract the results by looking at your benchmarks for 5k (so for your own sake, avoid tunnels, tall buildings, heavy tree cover, pylons etc). If you are running a local 5k loop, please add a bit on, just to make sure that your watch registers at least 5k's worth of data. But no peeking!
The person who is closest to their predicted time will win the 'Doctor K Cup' for one year.
NB We normally do this using parkrun results, because Doctor K was a big parkrun fan - but because of the pandemic, we're resorting to GPS data this year. If you *don't* have a GPS, you can use an app on your phone. And if you don't have a suitable phone, then please accept our apologies for this year.
